March School Ideas

The month of March was inspired by St. Patricks Day. A few of our favorite activities was our green sensory bin, our pot o’ gold activity, and of course St Patricks Day was just a fun day in itself!
This year for St. Patricks Day we had a little fun. Of course the kids had asked if they could set a trap and try to catch the leprechaun. I thought, “sure why not.” Little did I know they were going to spread Elmer’s glue all over our front door area, along with bungee cords, buckets and blocks. 🙂 But, it was fun and created a memory that will last. We did the silly little things around the house, but the one thing that really created for a fun day was that we wanted to give back in a fun way. The kids chose a couple neighbor kids, a random neighbor they see over by my mom’s, and our “adopted grandparents.” The kids looked forward to shopping, wrapping, and giving out these little treat bags. The treat bags were nothing big, we just shopped the dollar store for green things (mostly candy) and we bagged them up with a little note that said “you’ve been pinched.” The kids then played the “ring and run” game to give out the treat bags. It was so much fun for them to see the neighbors open the door to treats hanging there. I loved watching the kids prepare, and talk about how fun it was to give someone something randomly.  Port Charlotte Homeschool Families, March Sensory Bins, March School Ideas, Family Photographer Port Charlotte Florida

I found these awesome little gold pots from Second Story Window blog. She has some awesome ideas and this March Busy Bag was a great printable. I used gold coins that we found at Michaels on sale and for my three year old it was the perfect math activity that she has enjoyed independently.

For my five year old he was able to take the pots of gold that she had already completed and we turned it into learning about addition sentences. I laminated the pots of gold so the entire bottom part was open for him to use a dry erase marker and write addition problems.

The sensory bin this month is  a mish mosh of green and gold. My two year old enjoys the extra bonus of the plastic eggs in this bin. He has been putting multiple items in the eggs and working on opening and closing them. The added feathers have also been a fun new texture that he hasn’t had in a sensory bin before.
